Peace comes from within. That is a concept that has been preached by many spiritual leaders and teachers throughout the ages but none so famously as Buddha. At its core, it’s an idea that suggests inner tranquillity and harmony can only be found when we look within ourselves rather than trying to find peace outside of ourselves in external sources such as material possessions or even other people.
In today’s world, this message is incredibly relevant. We are constantly exposed to images of what society deems ‘beauty’, ‘happiness’ or ‘success’. This often leaves us feeling like something is missing in our lives; leading us to seek out these things externally to feel better about ourselves. However, if we take a step back, we can realize that these things do not bring us true inner peace.
At its heart, peace comes from within. It is a state of mind cultivated by kindness and compassion for ourselves as well as others. To find this peace requires us to turn inward and take time for self-reflection. When we learn how to practice mindfulness or meditation, we are better able to listen to our own needs and feelings rather than getting caught up in the chaos of the external world. Only then can true inner peace be discovered.
Peace does not come from without, it begins with each one of us. Only when we accept ourselves fully will we start on the path towards lasting inner peace and calmness no matter what life throws at us. Let’s remember the wise words of Buddha and search for peace from within.
The power to find true inner peace lies within us all. It is an essential part of a healthy and balanced life, so let’s take charge of our destiny and remember that peace comes from within.
